St. Cyprian’s Boys’ Judo Club

The St. Cyprian’s Boys’ Judo Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the teaching of traditional Kodokan judo.  The Club was founded in January 2015 and caters primarily to the boys of the St. Cyprian’s Preparatory Boys’ School.

Our aim is to bring the benefits of judo the young boys, as it is our belief that you are never too young to enjoy the discipline, since judo is not just a sport – it is a way of life.

The club is managed by a Committee of Management comprising a President, Secretary, Treasurer and Technical Directors.

The Club meets and trains at Canon Gordon Hazelwood Chapel at the St. Cyprian’s Preparatory Boys’ School.  Currently training is conducted by Professor Hoskins Caddle (6th Dan) – Chief Instructor and Mr. Carlos Cox.

Elite Judo Academy

Elite Judo Academy (EJA) was established in 2016, and officially started in February 2017.  The chief instructors are Robin Barker a former Barbados national team competitor and Andrew Payne who represented Barbados at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. EJA classes are currently designed for persons over the age of 18.

Classes in Kodokan Judo, V.S.K Jiu Jitsu and Bajan Stick Science, are offered to students from the tender age of three (3) years.

Classes for Juniors Three (3) Years to Seventeen (17) Years
Tuesdays and Thursdays – 5.30 to 6.30 PM (17:30 to 18:30 HRS)
Saturdays – 9.30 to 11.00 AM (09:30 to 11:00 HRS)

Classes for Adults Eighteen (18) Years and Older

Marine Gardens Judo Club

mgjclogonewMarine Gardens Judo Club is a registered member of the Barbados Judo Association which is affiliated to the National Sport Council, the Barbados Olympic Association, The Caribbean Judo Association, the Pan-American Judo Confederation and the International Judo Federation.
 
The club was founded  in 1984 by the now deceased Ken Freeman (7th Dan).
Following his death in 1994 the mantle of leadership was passed to Ian Weithers 6th Dan - (IOC Certified Coach) who is currently Chief Instructor with responsibility for club development.
 
The club's programs are administered by an enthusiastic and dedicated management team comprising the Chief Instructor, one Senior Instructor - Keith Weithers 6th Dan (IJF 'A' Referee) , three junior Instructors - Inga Augustus 3nd Dan,  Clovis Harewood 2nd Dan, Brian Peter 2nd Dan and Club Administrator - Roseclair Weithers (Madame Sensei).
 
We offer a healthy blend of traditional judo and modern teaching methodologies to ensure that our students have the best experience
 
The club follows the principle of Judo's founder Professor Jigoro Kano  "Judo for all"  and  caters to competitors as well as the social judokas through its various programs.
Students may enroll from the tender age of three (3) and persons of all ages after this are welcome to join and participate. We assist in developing judo based skills, training the body and the mind, instilling self-discipline and building sound character while having lots of fun. This is in keeping with the club motto "The Will, The Skill, The Thrill"
 
Over the years the club has developed a strong club culture which translates into a reliable core membership. It has adequate facilities and amenities, a high standard of safety, rescue access and an adequate off road parking area.
 
Club training days are Tuesdays and Saturdays. Usual training times are as follows
 
Tuesdays : 5.30 pm to 6.15 pm - 3 to 11 year old beginners
Tuesdays : 6.15 pm to 7.15 pm - students older than 11 years 
Saturdays: 9.00 am to 10.30 am : All students
